Greater Manchester car park littered with potholes slammed as 'utter disgrace'

A resident in Bury says she is frustrated with the local council after complaining about potholes at a car park for more than three years.

Myrna Marks, 89, said the car park in Prestwich, off Bury New Road, is plagued with pot holes and uneven surfaces and she is ‘getting nowhere’ with the council after requesting they fix it.

Myrna says she uses the car park to get to Prestwich Health Centre and when she is visiting the local shops. She said she struggles to walk on the ‘broken’ pavement and has issues navigating around whilst using her wheelchair.

“It’s an utter disgrace,” Myrna told the MEN. “It’s full of holes, there are uneven surfaces and weeds growing all over the walls. I’ve been complaining for a number of years now but nothing seems to be done about it.

“It’s a very big car park and is used by hundreds of people every day, but the pavement is broken on both sides of the road. It’s a wonder people haven’t hurt themselves.”

Photos taken from the car park this week show a number of small pot holes in the road, alongside some uneven road surfaces. Bury Council said it ‘frequently carries out repairs’ on the car park and would be arranging for further work to take place.

“I remember someone put some tarmac down a few years ago and that lasted about three weeks,” Myrna explained. “You wouldn’t have known anything was done. It’s so bad.

“I’ve got to the end of how I feel. I can’t get things done and things just aren’t getting done. I feel, as a resident and with my family living in Manchester for 200 years, that I should be doing something about it.”
