Gillingham’s leading goalscorer Bradley Dack’s reaction to their 1-1 draw with Barnet in League Two

Bradley Dack is embracing his growing leadership role at Gillingham after another influential performance.

The midfielder scored a superb free-kick to bring the Gills level against Barnet on Saturday before half-time, also made a crucial goal-line clearance, and was the focus of Gillingham’s forward play as Gareth Ainsworth’s side pushed for a winner.

Dack said: “It's nice to show my experience on the pitch, trying to fix problems, find solutions during the game. I’ve enjoyed it.

“I feel like that's something I'm getting better at. I know the manager and the staff want me to do that. It's something I'm trying to take in my stride.

“It's nice to pass on experience to the younger players if they have questions and to try to help them throughout their career.”

Dack’s performance again underlined his importance to this Gillingham side – not just in terms of goals, but also his influence on and off the ball.

Reflecting on the overall display, he admitted the Gills were below their best in the opening half but improved after the break.

“First half we weren't really at the races,” he admitted.

“We’ve definitely got to play better than that, and in the second half, I think we had the majority of the game, just didn't do enough to get that winner. Frustrating, I'd say.

“We know what we're good at, playing on the front foot, playing in behind, getting up the pitch quick and I don't think we quite got to grips with the game in the first half.

“I think we have to be better around the box. Decision making in the final third has got to improve and we've got to start making more chances to score goals.”
