Hollands & Blair host Fisher at home in the Southern Counties East Premier Division match this Saturday after 4-3 victory over Holmesdale made it four straight league wins for Darren Blackburn’s in-form side

Hollands & Blair have won their last four league games and manager Darren Blackburn has thanked the club for backing him during tougher times earlier this season.

Blackburn was close to quitting after a 5-0 home FA Vase loss to SE Dons, and has had some tough afternoons since, but he’s not been short of support when he’s needed it.

He was out of the country on Saturday, but oversaw the planning as chairman Paul Piggott took charge in a 4-3 win over Holmesdale, a win that sees the club closer to the Southern Counties East League play-off places than the drop zone.

Blackburn was back in the dugout for Tuesday night’sChallenge Cup third-round match away to Bearsted, which they lost on penalties against the league high-flyers, after a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after their latest league success, the manager said: “All the prep work was done to try and make it as seamless for the guys running it for me while I'm away.

“Chairman Paul Piggott stepped in for me, and it’s been a real team effort over the last week.

“Going back some weeks now, we had a meeting after the SE Dons game, and I actually offered my resignation that day.

“Upon reflection, we got reduced to 10 men quite early on with a harsh sending off. We had a couple of defeats before that as well, and I think with the onslaught of how challenging the last season was to stay up, it took a lot out of me.

“We started the season well, but then had a dip. You’re trying to find solutions, and you know that you might have to let lads go and make some big changes and some big calls. Early on in the season, it was tough to do.
