Gary Neville reacts to Harry Maguire being stripped of Manchester United captaincy
Gary Neville has praised Harry Maguire's 'amazing response' to being stripped of the Manchester United captaincy on Sunday afternoon.
Maguire announced he would give up the armband after holding discussions with manager Erik ten Hag, who informed him of the decision to change captain ahead of next season. The 30-year-old has been pushed to the fringes of the first-team picture over the last year, following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez.
Bruno Fernandes took the armband on a temporary basis when Maguire was not on the pitch, and Ten Hag has made the decision to strip him of the role permanently.

Maguire announced the decision on his social media channels, admitting that he was 'extremely disappointed' to lose the role but will continue to give his all for the club. "I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support," he added.
Former Reds captain Neville was among thousands to comment on the defender's Instagram post. He wrote: "Amazing response," with a red heart emoji.
Fernandes will be the most likely to receive the armband on a permanent basis, having led the team to success last season. The Portugal international often received praise from Ten Hag for his leadership qualities.
Maguire's future at United remains uncertain, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in the centre-back. Ten Hag would be open to a sale but the club's £50million valuation could detract potential suitors from making an offer.
