Bruno Fernandes told trait which 'isn't the best' for a Manchester United captain

Dwight Yorke believes that Bruno Fernandes will bring his own style to the Manchester United captaincy and any potential shortcomings in his leadership skills will be forgotten if the Reds are winning.

The Portugal midfielder has been given the armband by United boss Erik ten Hag as a change was made with the captaincy this summer. Harry Maguire was stripped of it after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

With Maguire on the bench for large spells last season behind the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at centre-half, Fernandes took the captain's armband for much of the campaign. This summer's decision has solidified that choice by Ten Hag.

Treble-winning former United striker Yorke believes Ten Hag made the call to appoint Fernandes as his new permanent skipper thanks to the midfielder's regular time on the pitch, plus the length of time he has now been at Old Trafford and is familiar with United. Though expressing doubts about his leadership skills, Yorke believes this will matter little as long as United are winning.

Speaking to OLBG, Yorke said: "Ten Hag would've looked through his team and thought his captain should be the player who plays 95%, and Bruno Fernandes is the player most likely to play 95% of the time. Casemiro or Raphael Varane could be one of the captains too, but Fernandes has been at Man United for three years now so he knows the ins and outs of the club.
