Garnacho vs Rooney - who scored the better overhead kick for Manchester United?

When it comes to great all-time Premier League goals, Manchester United fans are spoiled for choice - and now Alejandro Garnacho has added his name to the list with some style.

With United and Everton level in the third minute of their Premier League clash at Goodison Park on Sunday, there seemed to be little danger when Diogo Dalot overhit a cross to the back post. What Garnacho did next stunned the Everton fans into silence: an incredible overhead kick sent the ball arching into the top left-hand corner of Jordan Pickford's net.

Now we did say United have form when it comes to spectacular goals; especially overhead kicks. Garnacho's effort bore a striking similarity to another unforgettable bicycle kick by Wayne Rooney back in 2011 in a 2-1 win over fierce rivals Manchester City. Both goals will live long in the memories of United fans, especially those fortunate enough to have seen it live at Goodison - but the big question is, whose overhead kick was better?

It is not just how Rooney and Garnacho did it; they scored perfect goals from imperfect deliveries.

The cross: Rooney had to deal with a difficult delivery as Nani's ball from the right flank took a deflection off Pablo Zabaleta, meaning he had to generate incredible power. As for Garnacho, Dalot's cross was heading away from goal at a great height.

The kick: Rooney left a stunned Joe Hart left rooted to the spot with the ferocity of the strike, whereas with Garnacho's, Pickford tried and failed to claw away the arcing effort. Rival fans have quibbled that Rooney's effort actually came off his shin, but that feels akin to Chandler Bing's sarcastic barb: "My wallet's too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight!"
