Manchester United fans agree with Gary Neville on Alejandro Garnacho amid Rooney comparison

Manchester United fans made their feelings clear about Alejandro Garnacho's wondergoal against Everton with a huge majority agreeing it was better than Wayne Rooney's iconic overhead kick in the Manchester derby.

Garnacho scored the greatest goal of his career and arguably one of the Premier League's all-time best in last Sunday's 3-0 win at Goodison Park. The United winger watched Diogo Dalot's cross float his way before unleashing a spectacular overhead kick past Jordan Pickford and into the top corner.

The goal brought instant comparison's to another iconic Reds effort, this time from Rooney in a 2-1 win over Manchester City back in 2011. Rooney adjusted himself to meet Nani's deflected cross, his effort flying past a stranded Joe Hart.

United fans have since had their say via a recent poll held by the Manchester Evening News. A whopping 80% (925) of the 1,1154 people surveyed preferred Garnacho's effort, with 20% (229) opting for the vintage Rooney strike.

The debate has divided opinion among the footballing world, with former Old Trafford captain Gary Neville instantly comparing the two after the game. He admitted it was the best overhead kick he has ever seen and seemingly agreed with the majority on this one.

"There will be people debating that now and getting previous overhead kicks," Neville told Sky Sports. "But it's not a bicycle kick, it's an overhead kick.

"There are times you can get on your side, into that position. We can all do that. But to get into the position Garnacho did, I've never seen that before. I think Rooney's is close to it but Garnacho's is just better."
