"From what I understand" - Transfer insider drops interesting claim after Moyes talks with GSB

West Ham United boss David Moyes held crunch talks with the Hammers’ hierarchy after the transfer window slammed shut at the end of last month, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Premier League side were unable to welcome any reinforcements to the London Stadium despite their best efforts throughout January.

Moyes has attempted to defend West Ham’s owners after revealing they sanctioned ‘three record transfer bids’ during last month’s window.

That means a trio of offers were worth more than the £45million they forked out for Sebastien Haller less than three years ago.

It is understood that the east Londoners failed with a £60million bid to prise striker Darwin Nunez away from Benfica.

West Ham also saw a £50million proposal turned down for Leeds United winger Raphinha despite the Brazilian being open to the switch if his current employers had given the green light.

Leeds rejected a similar offer for defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the final days of the window, although the Hammers are thought to be open to returning with another bid in the summer.

Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car evaded Moyes’ clutches despite Goal France journalist Marc Mechenoua revealing, via Get French Football News, the club had entered advanced talks.

Jones understands Moyes was annoyed not to strengthen his squad before the deadline passed at the end of last month.

The transfer insider believes West Ham’s boss held talks with the likes of David Sullivan and David Gold last week.
