Former Rangers star Andy Halliday joins Motherwell as Steelmen fight off other clubs to land midfielder from Hearts

Motherwell have managed to fend off fierce competition to complete the signing of Andy Halliday from Hearts.

The 32-year-old has signed for the Steelmen on an initial six-month loand deal, which will then become a permanent one-year deal in the summer.

The former Rangers and Livingston ace brings a wealth of experience to Fir Park, as the club seek to haul themselves away from the wrong end of the Scottish Premiership table.

Boss Stuart Kettlewell says they had to fend off some of their rival to get his signing over the line, but is delighted to boost his squad after the recent blows of Callum Slattery's season-ending injury and Arsenal loanee Mika Biereth being recalled by his parent club.

He said: “I’m delighted we have been able to get Andy on board..

“There was other clubs interested in Andy so the fact he has came here, says a lot for me.

“To get a player with the ability, experience and versatility that Andy possesses is a huge positive for us.

"It will give everyone a boost going into our next match.”

Halliday made 109 appearances for the Jambos since joining them from Rangers in 2020 and has racked up over 400 senior games during stints at Livingston, Middlesborough, Walsall, Bradford City and Blackpool.

After completing his move, Halliday said: “It’s a good feeling to be here.

“I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow and seeing all the supporters at Fir Park.”

Halliday goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's Scottish Cup fourth round clash at home to Alloa.
