Motherwell sign Callan Elliot as Steelmen strengthen squad ahead of St Johnstone clash

Motherwell have signed New Zealand international Callan Elliot on a deal until the end of the season.

The Dumfries-born 24-year-old was a free agent having recently left Wellington Phoenix and becomes boss Stuart Kettlewell's third January signing, following the arrivals of midfielder Adam Montgomery from Celtic and Andy Halliday from Hearts.

Despite his Scottish roots, this is his the first time Elliot - who has three caps for his country- will have played in Scotland, having spent the vast majority of his career in New Zealand at Wellington and Tasman United.

Kettlewell said: "Callan has good quality and has impressed out in the A-League.

“I’m trying build a squad here and we have been looking to add quality and depth in this area of the park. Callan ticks both of those boxes so it’s great to get him in the squad.

“He’s an international player and someone I think can add a lot to the team.”

Elliot told the club website: "It’s great to say I’m a Motherwell player.

“I’ve been training hard and I’m looking forward to get going. The boys are great and have made me feel very welcome so far.”

Elliot could make his debut in Saturday's Premiership clash away to St Johnstone.
