Former Rangers kid is "ridiculous talent", says Shotts boss as he praises stunning strikes in cup win

Shotts boss John McKeown branded midfielder Adam Hunter a “ridiculous talent” as two stunning strikes from distance helped the club knock Eglinton out of the West of Scotland Cup.

The ex-Rangers youth was at the double in a 4-0 triumph to book The Bonny’s place in the last 16, in what was their first game in over a month due to postponements.

McKeown’s men were back with a bang as an own goal and a Ben Richford strike added to Hunter’s deadly double.

And the Hannah Park gaffer enthused: “Adam produced two absolutely incredible strikes from distance, one with his left foot and the other with his right from 25-30 yards.

“That’s just Adam for you. He is just a ridiculous talent. He is naturally left and right footed, so he is a big player for us.

“The only problem for Adam throughout his career - even at Rangers and in the Championship with the likes of Ayr and Arbroath - is injuries.

“He is just one of these boys who can’t catch a break and it has been a bit like that for him with us. But, thankfully, now he is back fit and it is great to see him doing well for us.

“You are always worried how you are going to be after a few weeks out and the conditions weren’t great at all. It was freezing, soaking, just horrible, but the guys put in a really professional performance.

“I was pretty impressed by Eglinton. We’ve played some teams from the fourth division over pre-season and I thought they gave a good account of themselves.

“They made us work for the win, that’s for sure.”

Shotts return to West of Scotland Fourth Division duty on Saturday when they travel to third bottom Neilston in their final game before Christmas.

But McKeown insists it won’t be straightforward for his sixth-place side as they play catch-up on their rivals
