Jamie McGrath nets brace for Aberdeen, while Rangers bounce back from Old Firm derby defeat

A first-half double from Republic of Ireland midfielder Jamie McGrath helped Aberdeen move clear of the cinch Premiership relegation places with a 3-0 win at fellow strugglers Ross County.

The Meathman's goals were added to in the 80th minute by Bojan Miovski, who took his personal tally to 15 goals across all competitions this season.

The win lifted the Dons four points above second-bottom County while McGrath has now scored six league goals and seven in all competitions.

The 27-year-old's first goal came when Miovski recovered well after his shot was blocked by Jack Baldwin to send a cross into the middle. In line with the back post, McGrath was able to control the ball and leave Ross Laidlaw powerless to prevent it finding the bottom corner.

The same player doubled the Dons' advantage on the hour mark, this time taking advantage of a piece of magic from Leighton Clarkson to weave past Ryan Leak and tee McGrath up for a tap-in.

Meanwhile, Rangers quickly swept away Old Firm frustrations with a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement lost his first game as Gers boss in the narrow 2-1 defeat at Celtic Park on Saturday but, just as it looked as if they were losing their way a bit after an energetic start, late first-half goals from wide-men Ross McCausland and Abdallah Sima gave them a commanding interval lead.

Killie, who went into the game unbeaten in six games, fought back and Danny Armstrong reduced the deficit in the 58th minute with a penalty awarded after VAR intervention.

It was the first penalty Rangers had conceded in 75 cinch Premiership matches since Lewis Ferguson netted for Aberdeen in a 1-1 draw in January 2022.
