Derek McInnes shocked at Rangers CONCEDING a penalty as Kilmarnock boss smirks 'who would have thought it at Ibrox?'

Smirking Derek McInnes jokes he was shocked to get a penalty against Rangers after his Kilmarnock side came off on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat.

McInnes celebrated on the touchline when, with his side 2-0 down, John Souttar was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box and Daniel Armstrong stepped up to tuck away the resulting penalty. Todd Cantwell soon deemed it irrelevant by restoring the deficit but the spot-kick ended a remarkable run of 74 games without Rangers conceding a penalty in the league.

'Penalty to Rangers' has become a joking catchphrase among some Scottish football fans but the lack of penalties against the Ibrox side has led to conspiracy theories on the other side of Glasgow and beyond. And that was something a smirking McInnes alluded to as he said he was 'delighted' just to get a penalty.

Philippe Clement was adamant it SHOULDN'T have been a spot-kick but McInnes said: “I haven’t seen it again, but obviously their manager was adamant it wasn’t a handball. VAR has asked the referee to go and have a look at it, but it’s so subjective with handball. Whether it’s away from the body, the distance - that is always going to be the one VAR isn’t perfect on.

"We’re just delighted to get a penalty, and who’d have thought at Ibrox! It’s good to get one back, and it was game on.”
