Former Huddersfield Town and Bristol City defender set to extend his Sheffield Wednesday stay

Jack Hunt is set to commit his future to Sheffield Wednesday. It is understood the right-sided player has agreed a deal to extend his Owls stay.

The 31-year-old returned to Hillsborough last summer following a three-year spell at Bristol City. He was a first-team regular for Wednesday during the 2021/22 season as Darren Moore's troops finished fourth in League One to secure a play-off spot. Hunt made 46 appearances across all competitions.

Hunt claimed his first ever goal for the club in his 146th outing when the Owls brushed aside Cheltenham Town back in March. He then scored again a week late in the vital victory over AFC Wimbledon.

Sheffield Wednesday have a clear transfer plan as Darren Moore bids to correct long-term issue

Moore surprisingly left Hunt out of the starting XI for the first leg of their play-off semi-final clash with Sunderland. Although Hunt started the second leg at Hillsborough, Wednesday came up short and lost 2-1 on aggregate to the Black Cats.

Hunt has predominantly played at right wing back under Moore. With the Owls boss set to keep faith with a 3-5-2 formation for next season, Hunt is likely to be competing with Liam Palmer for a place in the side.

The futures of Joe Wildsmith, Massimo Luongo and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, though, remain up in the air. Like Hunt, the trio were all offered fresh terms last month but it remains unclear whether they will stay at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are due to begin their pre-season preparations next Monday.
