Fofana, Ward, Evans - Leicester City injury news ahead of Rennes tie

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has received a boost ahead of the second-leg tie of the Europa Conference League with Rennes on Thursday (5:45pm kick-off).

Defender Wesley Fofana will be included in the match day squad after a long-awaited return from injury. The central defender has been out of action for seven months since suffering a major injury in the final pre-season friendly vs Villarreal.

"Wesley Fofana will come into the squad, which is great news," Rodgers said at his press conference on Wednesday morning. "We’ll have a look at him in our final session and we’ll see if he can get some minutes.

"It’s at that stage of the season where the guys who are coming back, you have to put them into really competitive games, because there’s not so many Under-23s games. Then you’re having to manage the minutes. Hopefully Wesley will be able to play some part.

"Between now and the end of the season, it’s building him back up. He will have a big contribution to make for us but we have to tread carefully with him, and get him through to the end of the season."

The Foxes take a 2-0 advantage to France and look set to make it through to the quarter final of the competition after sealing goals from Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho sealed the win at the King Power last week.

The defender was due to return in last week's Europa Conference League home leg vs Rennes, but a positive Covid test last week delayed his return.
