Phil Hay: 'Brilliant' Leeds star a doubt for Wolves; news drops before Marsch's press conference
Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has labelled Rodrigo a ‘doubt’ for the trip to Wolves tomorrow evening.
The club-record signing was brought off at half-time in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa last week but bounced back with an excellent display against Norwich on Sunday.
The Spaniard netted the opener at Elland Road and was Jesse Marsch’s joint second-best starter in the 2-1 win behind Raphinha, ending with a match-rating of 7.4/10. [SofaScore]
Unfortunately, Rodrigo, labelled as ‘brilliant’ by Patrick Bamford, had to make way on the hour mark due to a quad problem, and it seems as if that may now rule him out of the trip to Molineux.
Hay shared a story on The Athletic on Wednesday, looking at Rodrigo’s recent influence both on and off the pitch.
He suggested that the attacker was replaced by Robin Koch due to a tight quad, an issue which has made him a doubt against Wolves, although he hasn’t been ruled out as of yet.
Providing Bamford came through his first start in six months unscathed, Marsch will have a number of options to possibly replace Rodrigo in the starting XI.
Both Jack Harrison and match-winner Joe Gelhardt were named on the bench on Sunday, so they could possibly slot into a 4-2-2-2 system. Should it be Harrison for the Spaniard, then Dan James may partner Bamford up front, however, if Gelhardt is preferred, then it would be a simple swap.
We will learn more at Marsch’s press conference this morning, so fingers crossed it is good news on Rodrigo after his performance on the weekend.
