Fenerbahce ‘to speak with Anthony Martial’ and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Fenerbahce will reportedly organise a meeting in the hope of speaking with Anthony Martial over his Manchester United future.

The striker is permitted to speak with overseas clubs from January with his United contract set to expire in June. The club has the option of triggering a one-year extension but this seems unlikely given his status in Erik ten Hag’s squad. Martial is second-choice behind summer arrival Rasmus Hojlund and has lost popularity with supporters.

The Frenchman has scored twice in 19 appearances this season, having started just seven of them. United chiefs have admitted they do not expect much activity this January and so amid a shortage of centre-forwards, Martial stay at the club before leaving for free in the summer.

Turkish outlet Dirilis Postasi says Fenerbahce also attain interest in former United loanee Wout Weghorst, who joined the Reds for a short spell last January.

However, the Super Lig leaders also wish to speak with Martial, who at 28 is three years younger than Weghorst. The outlet claims Martial is not a part of Ten Hag’s long-term squad plans and so a pre-agreement with Fenerbahce could be forthcoming if contract details are easily fleshed out.

Meanwhile, Marca claims Casemiro is mulling over his future amid offers from Saudi Arabia. Given current midfield options and the fact Moroccan Sofyan Amrabat is due to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations, it seems strange that Ten Hag would sanction a mid-season exit for the Brazilian, though MEN Sport understands the club are open to offers.
