Fabio Silva sparks Celtic AND Rangers transfer 'battle' as £35m misfit seeks Wolves escape

Celtic and Rangers are set to battle it out for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva, according to reports in Portugal.

The 21-year-old moved to Molineux from Porto in a massive £35 million move three years ago - a then club record fee - but has failed to live up to the hype in the English Premier League. And he is said to be ready for a departure from the Midlands side with Portuguese outlet O Jogo saying that, while Spanish clubs are interested in signing the Portugal Under-21 international, it is the Old Firm who are leading the race for his signature.

Silva has previously had loan spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven and any move to the Scottish Premiership would almost certainly be the same. The Glasgow rivals are both in desperate need of short term striking reinforcements. Brendan Rodgers is set to lose the likes of Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Oh for the Asia Cup in January while Philippe Clement is without Danilo who has undergone a knee operation while Cyriel Dessers and Abdallah Sima could be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations early next year. Silva has featured for just 372 minutes for Gary O’Neil’s side this season but is a player who has clear potential.
