Celtic sold tantalising Super League 'future proof' guarantee as UEFA come out swinging over revamped tournament

The main man behind the revamped European Super League proposal has already offered Celtic a tempting prospect that could see them included in the controversial tournament.

Bernd Reichart, who lead the challenge from A22 Sports to UEFA, namechecked the Scottish Premiership champions ahead of a court ruling which looks set to revive the tournament just two years after it collapsed. The fresh vision for the tournament could see the likes of the Hoops, Rangers and teams outside of Europe's big five leagues get an invite with an 80-team format currently floated.

EU’s top court ruled football chiefs broke the law in blocking the the breakaway competition - with UEFA declaring that the ruling does not "signify an endorsement or validation" of the Super League. The Court of Justice have ruled that European football's governing body and FIFA have acted "unlawfully" amid accusations that they abused their market dominance of competitions.

The plans for a new league were thrown out in April 2021, but look set to return with European heavyweights Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus set to spearhead the overhauled tournament which could replace the Champions League. And Reichart floated a plan to the likes of Celtic last week that could help "future proof" the Hoops as part of a fresh proposal.

Speaking ahead of the judgement Reichart said: "Surely it cannot be that the (UEFA) monopoly is okay and the conventions of Europe do not apply to sport? If we have a licence to compete then we then have to convince clubs that our alternative model is better for their future.
