Michy Batshuayi in Rangers transfer talks with Philippe Clement 'leading' the race to sign fellow Belgian
Michy Batshuayi is reportedly in transfer talks with Rangers.
Philippe Clement is searching for a striker, and a deal looks to be on for fellow Belgian Batshuayi with the Ibrox club chasing a short-term deal for the former Chelsea hitman. Abdallah Sima is away on African Cup of Nations duty with Senegal and Cyriel Dessers has been placed on standby for Nigeria. Flop Sam Lammers is on the brink of joining Utrecht on loan, so Clement is looking light up front.
Lawrence Shankland has been continually linked, but a move for Batshuayi is top of the agenda for the Gers boss and director of football Nils Koppen. The 30-year-old has failed to agree a new deal with Turkish giants Fenerbahce, where he is a teammate of ex-Govan favourite Ryan Kent. Talks over a switch are expected over the next 24 hours and Clement is hopeful of landing the one-time £33million man before he jets out to La Manga with his squad.
However, he faces competition to get his man. Everton are thought to be keen according to reports in Turkey. However, it's thought Rangers are at the front of the queue to secure Batshuayi's services, according to the Scottish Sun.
His arrival could provide a major shot in the arm to their title chances. He'd become the second January arrival alongside fellow hitman Fabio Silva, who has joined from Wolves until the end of the season.
