Ex-Rangers boss sheds light on transfer pursuit of Sheffield Wednesday's Josh Windass
Pedro Caixinha has spoken of his admiration for Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass. The former Rangers boss knows Windass well, having working closely with the forward at Ibrox.
Caixinha, appointed as manager of Argentinean side Atlético Talleres in March, is keen to add Windass to his striking options. Talleres have already had one six figure bid turned down for Windass.
But the Primera Division outfit, who finished third in the Argentine top tier last term, are considering tabling a second bid as they attempt to lure Windass away from Hillsborough. Caixinha has claimed talks remain ongoing between all parties.
"I've kept in touch with Josh since when I had him at Rangers," Caixinha told La Voz. "He is a player that we know and that we always follow. He has the profile we are looking for for one of the extremes.
"He is straight, but he can also play behind the '9' and also from outside to inside. He was a player that we proposed to Andrés (Fassi, Talleres president) when we were analysing player options for that position.
"He, his representative and the club his pass belongs to (Sheffield Wednesday) have been contacted. Now it is a matter of negotiations, which is not up to me to carry out. What I can say is that an offer has been made and that it may be a possibility, but nothing is defined."
Windass, the son of former Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Bradford City forward Dean, endured an injury-hit 2021/22 campaign. He made just 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and weighing in with two assists.
Although Talleres have yet to give up hope of signing Windass, it is understood neither Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri or manager Darren Moore want to lose Windass. The
