Charlton Athletic owner outlines Jayden Stockley stance amid Sheffield Wednesday transfer link

Owls boss Darren Moore has set his sights on increasing their attacking firepower in the coming weeks. Yorkshire Live understands Wednesday's recruitment team are working overtime to bring in reinforcements before the 2022/23 season gets under way on the final weekend of July.

Sources say the Owls are in dialogue with a number of forwards. Hull City's Mallik Wilks, Rotherham United's Michael Smith and Charlton Athletic's Jayden Stockley have all been heavily linked with a move to Hillsborough. It is believed the League One club have spoken to Hull about Wilks and are reportedly getting closer to reaching an agreement to sign the 23-year-old.

But the Addicks have ruled out selling Stockley in this window. Despite a spell on the sidelines with a back problem, Stockley scored 20 goals in their mid-table finish last term.

Stockley, who joined Charlton from Preston North End in the summer of 2021 after a successful loan spell at The Valley, has two years left to run on his Addicks deal. Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard told the South London Press : “There is interest in him because he is probably the best forward in League One.

“It is natural that he creates a lot of interest. He had a period with an injury last season that hurt the number of goals he ended up scoring. But he is still a great player and he is also a great character to have around the dressing room.

“He has a lot of value for us. If we were to let go of him it would have to be for an astronomical amount. I definitely see him being an integral part of our team.”
