Everton transfer latest: Attacker Stephy Mavididi tipped for Toffees talks as quartet also chase Montpellier man

Everton have reportedly approached the agents of Montpellier attacker Stephy Mavididi ahead of a potential summer move, although four other clubs are also chasing his signature.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Friday morning that Brighton, Southampton, West Ham and Marseille have also been in contact about a summer deal for the 24-year-old forward.

Indeed, Romano added that there’s a decent chance Mavididi will move on from Montpellier “in the coming weeks”.

The attacker is one of very few Englishmen making an impression outside of his own country.

Mavididi has an excellent campaign, scoring eight goals and adding three assists as Montpellier finished 13th in the Ligue 1 table.

However, a disappointing end to the campaign for his club has prompted the forward to consider his future.

He could opt to remain in France and head to Marseille. But is a strong temptation to return home and try his luck in England again.

Mavididi actually started his career at Arsenal before, having loan spells at Charlton and Preston. He then, surprisingly, headed to Juventus.

He actually made one Serie A appearance for the Turin giants in 2018-19. A permanent switch to Montpellier then followed in 2020.

The Derby-born attacker is capable playing as a central striker or on the left-wing. And that sort of versatility is exactly what Frank Lampard likes in his forward players.

Everton could also be in need of at least one new striker, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison continually linked with exits.

However, there could be a spanner in the works to any potential signing. Everton currently have an issue with Financial Fair Play, which is holding up hope of any incomings.
