Callum Wilson pinpoints Newcastle's 'moment of the season' involving Joelinton

Callum Wilson believes Joelinton's transition into a deeper role was the moment of the campaign for Newcastle United. The Brazilian was one of, if not, the standout performers for Eddie Howe's side since the arrival of the head coach.

Joelinton was overwhelmingly voted Player of the year by Chronicle readers and has completely transformed his Magpies career. The 25-year-old has been an ever present throughout the campaign and played a huge part in Newcastle's survival bid.

His form in a black and white shirt has been that impressive, that fans have called for an international call-up alongside Magpies team-mate Bruno Guimaraes. A cap for Brazil would be the feather in his cap, but a play in Tite's squad has evaded him so far.

If Joelinton carries on this form into next season, combined with Newcastle's top-half aspirations, then he could be knocking on the door for Brazil's World Cup squad for Qatar later this year. His displays this season have not just drawn praise from fans and pundits, his Newcastle team-mates have also been among the plaudits.

Wilson told NUFC TV: “Moment of the season, I think, was probably Joelinton switching into midfield.

“I feel that it was a turning point for him in his career and for him in his Newcastle career definitely. It helped the team massively, he’s been a great addition to the midfield, he’s solid and he looks more comfortable there.

“He’s been our player of the season because of that. I definitely think that was the moment of the season.”
