Everton: £15m star in 'absolutely glorious' situation vs Tottenham

Everton striker Neal Maupay got himself into some “glorious positions” in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham over the weekend, believes journalist Paul Brown.

The 26-year-old striker was unable to get himself on the scoresheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Brown liked what he saw from him during that game.

Maupay has not been able to register since his goal against West Ham last month.

Since then, the Frenchman has played in matches versus Southampton, Manchester United and most recently Tottenham, but he has been unable to find the back of the net.

It means he has scored just one goal in five games for Everton since joining the club in a £15m deal from Brighton (via BBC Sport) during the summer.

In his final season at the Amex Stadium, Maupay registered nine times in 35 appearances in all competitions.

Had Demarai Gray not have gone for glory on a couple of occasions, Brown has suggested that Maupay would have got his name on the scoresheet against Antonio Conte's men.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "The best chance they had in the first half of that game, or one of them, fell to Demarai Gray. And I watched Maupay, live and then through the replays, get himself into two absolutely glorious positions for a simple tap in if Gray had seen him and played the pass, but Gray went for glory and blazed it over instead."

When Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fully fit, you would expect him to be Frank Lampard's first-choice No.9.

Back in the 2020/21 season, where he did not pick up too many injuries, the 25-year-old was able to score an impressive 21 goals in all competitions.

Ultimately, when Calvert-Lewin is available and his match fitness is where it needs to be, he is one of the first names on the team sheet.
