Erik ten Hag's Man Utd future in doubt as Rio Ferdinand predicts Jim Ratcliffe 'intervention'

Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag that billionaire owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe won't hesitate to make a 'big decision' about his future.

Despite spending over £400million on new players since he took over two years ago, the Dutch manager hasn't made much progress with the team. Things got even worse for United on Saturday when they were beaten at home by Fulham, putting more pressure on Ten Hag. Speaking on Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said that many things need to happen for Ten Hag to stay at Old Trafford for another season. He thinks Ratcliffe won't be scared to sack him if he feels it's necessary.

When asked if he thinks Ten Hag will be sacked at the end of the season, Ferdinand said: "It depends. If he runs it close and we see an upturn in form, an upturn in the environment at the training ground and they can see what it looks like going into next season if we add the right pieces to it as well."

He added that if the team doesn't finish the season well and the dressing room isn't a happy place, then Ten Hag could be in trouble. "One thing I would say is that I don't think Jim Ratcliffe and his team are shy of making big decisions. It won't be a big thing for them if they have to intervene. I don't think they'll look at it and go: 'We've got to work out the media and the PR'.

"What's right for United now, they will do."

Ferdinand also shared his concerns about Manchester United's lack of a clear playing style, saying, "That's one concern," and adding, "What are we? I don't know what we are. I spoke to the manager at Galatasaray and he said: 'We've had a lot of injuries so it's difficult to implement the tactical side of things and have a regular way of playing'.
