Erik ten Hag is playing a dangerous game with comments on best Manchester United XI

Replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United was never going to be easy, but few could have predicted it was going to be this tough.

Erik ten Hag is nowhere near the United exit door and the only people discussing his future at the club are those with no affiliation to United. The Dutchman inherited a mess last year and he has enough credit in the bank after last season's league finish and Carabao Cup triumph to see out the current storm.

Player power has been an issue at United in the past and some managers have left the club in recent years having struggled to take control of the dressing room. One of the most impressive things about Ten Hag's tenure so far has been his ability to take control of the squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo's antics were dealt with brilliantly by Ten Hag, with the Portuguese star soon shown the exit door and now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have also been on the receiving end of Ten Hag's ruthless standard-setting, with the latter not getting the game time many had expected during Ten Hag's first pre-season tour and Rashford dropped from the starting XI against Wolves last season.

It’s been a rocky start to the season for United and Ten Hag, with the Reds having won just two of their five opening Premier League games and suffering defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.
