Manchester United takeover latest as two bidders 'put off' by early-season results

Speculation over the Manchester United takeover situation continues to gather pace, but there has yet to be any proper breakthrough over two formal bids.

Proposals headed up by Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe - via his INEOS company - have yet to be accepted and United remain at a crossroads off the pitch. That means the Premier League giants are still being led by the much-maligned Glazer family.

What's going on behind the scenes remains a hot topic of debate at Old Trafford and beyond as Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim - not to mention the club's supporters - contemplate what could be around the corner. Here, we take a look at the latest news and headlines regarding the takeover.

Bidders competing for ownership at United have been "put off" by the club's poor start to the season.

That's according to bombshell reports from The Times with Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe still vying for control. However, as per that article, early-campaign troubles on the pitch are claimed to be having a negative impact behind the scenes with the Glazer family still mulling over two offers.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim are thought to have bid over £5billion each with the Glazers reportedly wanting around £6bn to sanction a takeover. It has been 10 months since the Americans stated they were prepared to "explore strategic alternatives" relating to fresh investment or a complete takeover at the club.
