Erik ten Hag has already explained Man United Matthijs de Ligt stance amid Leny Yoro update

Matthijs de Ligt continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

United identified the strengthening of the centre-back position as a priority for the summer transfer window this year. Leny Yoro has already been signed from Lille and other targets are likely to be on the agenda this summer.

De Ligt has been linked with signing for United all summer, while Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite is also a player of interest to United. Bayern Munich are thought to be seeking £42million for De Ligt this summer, with it understood that personal terms are already agreed.

After the injury to Yoro, United are likely to dip into the market for another new centre-back as originally planned. It remains to be seen if the Reds will look to sign either De Ligt or Branthwaite, or even another possible target, before the transfer window closes on September 2.

It was just recently that United boss Erik ten Hag spoke about the possibility of De Ligt signing for United. Ten Hag, who coached the centre-back during his time at Ajax, hinted that a move could be on the cards.

“It remains to be seen whether Matthijs de Ligt will come, I know him well," Ten Hag told Dutch news outlet AD back in July. “I wanted to sign him two years ago but, at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern.”

United confirmed on Monday that Yoro has undergone successful surgery on a foot injury. The club also confirmed that the centre-back is expected to be on the sidelines for three months while he recovers from the injury.
