Leny Yoro discovers Man Utd's plans for when everyone is back 100 per cent fit

Despite shelling out a hefty £52million to secure Leny Yoro's signature, there may not be room for the prospect in Erik ten Hag's Manchester United defence.

The former Lille player suffered a foot injury during a pre-season match against Arsenal and isn't expected to return until November. However, his immediate chances may have been slim even if the player were fit and ready right now.

Even when fit, Yoro's chances of starting appear slim due to the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt, a more experienced central defender who has previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax. Despite the significant investment in Yoro, he was always signed with the future in mind, and his playing time at Old Trafford may be limited shortly.

According to The Athletic, Ten Hag is likely to pair De Ligt with Lisandro Martinez on the right and left sides of central defence, respectively, when he has all options at his disposal. De Ligt, 25, was brought in as a potential upgrade on Harry Maguire, who has been utilised to compensate for Martinez's lack of height and aerial threat.

The Netherlands stalwart is still settling in at United, having only made a sub cameo in his Premier League debut during the recent 1-0 victory over Fulham. Ten Hag ended that match with three central defenders on-field after Jonny Evans was also brought on, suggesting there could be more defensive flexibility to come.
