Erik ten Hag could revert to last season's solution to fix Manchester United midfield

Erik ten Hag has decisions to make on his midfield make-up ahead of the weekend trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

There were teething problems for Manchester United on opening day as they beat Wolves 1-0. That was despite the visitors creating a bundle of clear-cut chances and being denied a clear penalty in the dying moments.

It's early days for United's new-look midfield trio, with Mason Mount brought in to partner Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes. In the same way that Mikel Arteta is using Kai Havertz deeper after signing Declan Rice, there were obvious flaws against Wolves.

Mount is seen as a capable presser and it's hoped his energy in midfield can compensate for the lack of cover around Casemiro. The Brazilian has many great qualities but perhaps lacks the mobility to play as a single pivot with such attacking number eights ahead of him.
