Emi Martinez to Man United transfer pathway explained amid Andre Onana decision

Manchester United’s transfer pathway to signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez might have become slightly clearer amid reports over the future of Andre Onana.

It is being reported that the Reds are willing to let goalkeeper Onana leave the club on a loan deal this summer.

The Cameroon international had a mixed season as United’s number one in 2024/25, leading to speculation over his future.

The Sun now claim that United are now on the lookout for a new first choice goalkeeper, with a loan deal for Onana possible.

The report says that the 29-year-old’s salary means that it has been difficult to find him a permanent move, with United now opening the door to a temporary deal which will likely see them contribute to a portion of his wages.

The club is not keen on sending him to a Premier League rival with the preference being a move to a European team. French side Monaco are said to have shown an interest, but his wages again could be a problem.

If United can find a new home for Onana, then work will be done to bring in a new first choice. The report says that Martinez is a top target for the club.

It’s not the first time that the Aston Villa goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. It is reported that the Midlands club will look for a fee of around £30-40 million for the World Cup winner if they are to sell.

Villa could be under pressure to cash in on at least one of their key players before the end of this month due to worries over complying with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). United will however have to move quickly if they wish to take advantage of that situation with less than two days of the month remaining.
