Eddie Howe issues update on Newcastle United player situation with Luton Town in pursuit

Eddie Howe has revealed that Newcastle United could still loan out Elliot Anderson in what remains of this transfer window, during an interview with The Shields Gazette. 

Luton Town first emerged as an interested party in the highly-rated midfielder last January, re-igniting their pursuit this month.

Nathan Jones told Luton Today earlier in the window that Anderson is a player that the Hatters like, but also stated that a move was nowhere near complete. 

Anderson has often been a level above with Newcastle U23s this season, featuring on the bench at first-team level too, as he continues his progression towards a senior career. 

Now it seems as though Luton’s hopes of completing a potential deal for the striker, have been given something of a boost.

Speaking to The Shields Gazette about Anderson, Howe said: “With Elliot, we’re looking at the possibility of loaning him but nothing is confirmed on that.

“The purpose of him staying behind was for him to be available to move and ready to potentially join another club on a loan deal. We’re waiting to see whether that’s going to happen or not.”

Luton are currently 11th in the Championship table, seven points adrift of the play-offs, ahead of their clash with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict 

Anderson is an exciting prospect within the Newcastle academy and could be an excellent signing, should the Hatters straighten their interest in what remains of the month. 

The young midfielder would bring excitement, ability and would be an alternative for Jones to his existing options at Kenilworth Road. 

Luton are yet to make any new signings this month, with much of the hard work set to be done in the summer.
