Nathan Jones delivers Luton Town message to play-off rivals

Having now crossed the 45-point mark in the table with 17 games spare, Jones believes his side have now secured their safety in the Championship.

The 48-year old has claimed his side are ready to trouble the biggest sides in the division now that they have achieved their ultimate target for the season.

“The ironic thing is, we’ve probably secured our Championship status tonight, that’s the first goal achieved in terms of getting enough points so you’re not looking down, and now we can concentrate on going after a couple,” said Jones, via Luton Today.

“Without being disrespectful, I think 45 points will keep you up this year, so to do that after 29 games, considering where we were two seasons ago and having to secure your Championship status after 46 games, it’s a wonderful place.

“But we want to progress year in year out, we want to push boundaries and we’re doing wonderfully well in terms of a football club, in terms of our structure, our resources we have available to compete with the top six.

“You look at the top six, they all have significantly more resources than us, but we’re delighted with what we have.

“Our structure, our processes, the way the team go about their work and I’m really proud of them.”

Jones has Luton absolutely flying so far this season, with his side eighth in the Championship table and only one point outside the play-off places.

Luton would make for very unlikely play-off contenders given pre-season expectations, but with 17 games to go they are right in the mix with some of the biggest clubs in the division.

Luton won their last game, 2-1 against Barnsley, to secure back to back victories.

The Hatters will be hoping to make it three wins on the spin as they take on Birmingham City on February
