New tricks, relegation worries and a transfer point proved as Birmingham City beat Luton Town
Birmingham City won for just the second time in a dozen Championship matches to kick-start their Championship campaign.
A first half goal from Juninho Bacuna and two in the second from Lyle Taylor and Onel Hernandez gave Lee Bowyer’s side a much-needed 3-0 victory.
In truth, it could have been more - even though Blues had to overcome a leg-weary first 10 minutes.
Luton boss Nathan Jones felt the interruption for the tennis ball protest upset his team’s momentum - Bowyer felt the match had already swung the hosts’ way before Bacuna opened the scoring.

One inescapable fact was the identities of the three goalscorers. Bacuna, Taylor and Hernandez - all three brought in during the transfer window.
Recent weeks has seen all the focus on the players, or more specifically defenders, Blues weren’t able to bring to the club as injuries have ripped through the squad.
However, this match was decided by the deals Blues were able to do and Bowyer claimed afterwards that he had wanted to address the area of the team that caused him most concern.
“We were keeping clean sheets,” he explained. “We couldn’t score a goal. Where do you need to strengthen? If you don’t score you don’t win any games and you have to rely on a clean sheet every week. It’s not possible.
“We were limited and we chose the path to bring in players that are going to win you games at that end of the pitch.”
The goalscorers have breathed life into Blues, they have renewed Ryan Woods’ raison d’être and Blues have scored in every match since Hernandez has been at the club.
Lyle Taylor’s arrival has also been pivotal. Blues are rolling along at nearly two goals a game since the 31-year-old moved across the Midlands.
