Welling United manager Ryan Maxwell cleared of all allegations following altercation before Potters Bar match

Welling United manager Ryan Maxwell has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an altercation before a match.

Maxwell was under investigation after police were called to Park View Road before the Wings’ Isthmian Premier game against Potters Bar in December last year.

He said he had acted in self-defence and learned this week the case will be taken no further.

“I’m very pleased that common sense has prevailed,” said Maxwell.

“I’ve stayed very quiet during the whole process because I am a very righteous man and I believe the truth will always come out in the end.

“People need to know the law, I certainly know the law, and I acted fully within it. I knew I had done nothing wrong.

“I found myself in a position where it was right to defend myself, legally. That’s all that happened.

“Thankfully, common sense has prevailed and it’s all been put to bed.”

Maxwell got on with the task of saving Welling from relegation despite having the investigation hanging over him.

He successfully kept the Wings in the division and is looking forward to putting the ordeal behind him.

“It was terrible timing because the club were obviously fighting to stay in the division,” said Maxwell.

“I certainly didn’t need anything else to deal with at the time but I’m a very strong character and nothing derails me.

“I stayed focused on the job and stayed professional the entire time. I got the job done regardless of what was going on outside.

“I didn’t let it affect me because I knew I had done nothing wrong but it was still very uncomfortable for the club, who were subject to negativity, very unnecessarily.

“Hopefully now, with this outcome, people will know I did nothing wrong.

“We put it behind us and focus on all the good things at the football club
