Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright looking for final pieces of the jigsaw needed to get his squad over the line in National League South next season
It’s a case of small improvements rather than big changes for Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright this summer.
The Fleet manager has already retained more than half of his squad from last season, including player-of-the-year Ben Chapman, and is waiting on decisions from two other players.
New faces have arrived in the form of defender Camron Gbadebo and attackers Danny Ogunleye and Aramide Oteh. Harvey Walker, who can play as a winger or a wing-back, was announced as the club’s fourth signing yesterday (Thursday).
It’s a far cry from last summer’s massive overhaul and, after finishing seven points off top spot and only three points away from a top-three finish, Wright knows he doesn’t need to rip it all up and start again.
“The main rebuild happened last summer and that was the toughest time,” said Wright.
“We got a lot of that right. Did we get everything right? No. Will you always get everything right? No.
“I worked with a fantastic group and my signings that I made last summer, on the whole, were all very good and contributed and worked.
“Now the one, two, or probably three I would say that didn’t quite come off or didn’t quite work might have been a big factor to it.
“Now what we have to do is chip away at the jigsaw puzzle that we’ve created and built and designed. Some have gone, six, seven, eight, whatever it might be that have or will go.
“We don’t need a massive rebuild now in the summer. What we need to do is find those little pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that are going to add those little percentages, get us over the line in those few games where what happened or take the chances or be more resolute, whatever it might be.
“That’s what’s going to be needed in terms of making us an even better side next year.
