Ebbsfleet United boss Josh Wright says the lows of management are boosting his resolve

Josh Wright reckons being a football manager “toughens you up”.

The Fleet boss has endured a frustrating week after dropped points in stoppage time in their last three National League South games.

Three potential wins have been turned into three draws through a combination of poor defending, awful refereeing and bad luck.

It’s another chapter - perhaps the most unexpected one so far - in the management book for Wright, who has been through plenty of emotions since taking over at Stonebridge Road.

“Football and life, it throws stuff at you, doesn't it?,” said Wright. “It throws stuff at you when you least expect it.

“The old saying, the punch on the nose when you least expect it, and it’s a really frustrating game.

“It’s really emotional, for the good and the bad, sport, if you like. I’m learning every day. We’re all learning every day.

“Nothing’s ever going to be perfect. No one’s ever perfect. It happens to the best of teams that you throw leads away.

“I was only sitting there watching the game on Sunday between Liverpool and Manchester City and [Liverpool manager] Arne Slot must have been feeling how we were feeling, although probably even worse as they were 1-0 up and lost the game.

“You never know what’s around the corner, but it teaches you a lot and it puts a lot of steel into you and it certainly toughens you up.

“Now, winning as a footballer, as a player, was incredible and losing was really tough. But winning as a manager beats anything in the world, and losing is tougher than anything.

“So, you have to take the good with the bad, but we keep going. We keep on the right direction, on the right steps. We’re not far away and we’re doing all right.”
