Dartford assistant manager Roland Edge says back-to-back wins over Welling United and Ramsgate do wonders for feelgood factor in Isthmian Premier promotion race
The belief is flowing through Dartford’s squad again after back-to-back victories.
That’s the verdict of assistant manager Roland Edge as derby wins over Welling United and Ramsgate have maintained Dartford’s push for a top-five finish in Isthmian Premier.
In contrast to last season, the Darts are now the chasers as they look to break into the play-off spots in the final 10 games of the campaign.
“Having the points, I always felt as a player, was better than not having them,” said Edge, following successive 1-0 victories.
“Some people don’t agree but I just think the main thing is that the team’s got a little bit of belief in there.
“We didn’t start the season brilliantly, neither did Billericay. But you look at it now and everybody seems to be going on runs.
“I feel that we’ve become solid and got a good bit of belief at the right time.
“I think we’ve got that little bit of fight in us. We know what it’s going to take to chase to the very end, to get what we hope to achieve by the end of the season.
“It’s never going to be pretty. Last year, I remember saying it wasn’t pretty, but you've just got to do what you’ve got to do to get the points.
“We were so solid against Ramsgate and then the goal was a glimpse of class.”
Tuesday’s win over Ramsgate, thanks to Denzelle Olopade’s first-half goal, saw Dartford’s 4-3-3 formation come up against Rams’ 3-5-2.
The contrast meant there was little margin for error.
“Ramsgate are a good side,” added Edge. “They’re solid, they’ve got good quality and we knew that anything short of how hard we worked at Welling against Ramsgate would leave us short.
“I’m glad we matched it because we’ve done it two games in a row now and got six points.
