East Kilbride boss gives verdict on debuts from new signings after frustrating Caledonian Braves draw

Mick Kennedy handed both of his new signings their East Kilbride debuts but admits they still have some way to get up to full speed.

Former Hamilton Accies midfielder Lewis Spence played the full 90 minutes of yesterday's 0-0 draw at home to Caledonian Braves, while ex-St Johnstone and Linfield forward John Robertson got the final half hour of the K-Park clash.

Kennedy was happy enough with their contributions but with both being out of action for a number of months, he knows there will be much more to come from the experienced stars in the quest for Lowland League and promotion glory.

He said: "It is great to get the two of them on board.

"Lewis did well. There wasn't a lot of pressure on him at times to go and play because Caley Braves sat off us, but I thought he did the simple things very well.

"It was his first 90 minutes in a long time and I am sure he will settle in nicely over the next few weeks.

"We didn't feel John was quite ready for a full game. He took a bit of a knock during the week and had a bit of a dead leg, but we managed to get him on for a bit.

"It is hard to come into the game towards the end when Caley Braves were holding on a bit, but he will be fine as we move forward."

EK extended their lead at the top of the table to six points and travel to third-place Cumbernauld Colts on Saturday.

Kilby ran out 2-0 winners in the previous meeting in November thanks to two late Liam Brown penalties and Kennedy knows it will be another test.

He said: "It will be another well-organised, well-coached side we come up against so we need to do more with the opportunities we create.

"It's a Colts side who are flying and going well themselves.
