Dylan Vente set for Hibs transfer as Lee Johnson wins race for £700k striker
Hibs have won the race to sign Dylan Vente in a bumper £700,000 deal from Roda JC. The 24-year-old striker was at Hibs Training Centre on Monday afternoon to undergo a medical ahead of completing the formalities on a switch to Leith and become Lee Johnson’s ninth summer signing.
It’s a major boost for the Hibees boss who lost Kevin Nisbet to Millwall in the summer. But they have chosen to reinvest a huge chunk of that fee into finding a replacement. And Vente, who scored 21 goals in 38 appearances for Dutch second tier side Roda last season, fits the bill. The Dutch U20 international’s prolific season attracted interest from the English Championship with Coventry City, Swansea and Sunderland linked while Serie B duo Palemro and Pisa also registered their interest.
But Hibs have pushed the boat out to land the former Feyenoord youngster and he could even be signed in time for Sunday’s Premiership opener against St Mirren. Finding a goalscorer to take the pressure off fellow summer signing Adam Le Fondre was Johnson’s priority this month despite eight new arrivals already in the door this summer.
In 33 appearances for Feyenoord Vente scored seven goals before moving to Roda where he netted 51 goals in 98 appearances.
Now, barring any late hitches, he’s set for Leith with his signing expected to be confirmed in the next 48 hours.
