Derby County reveal more summer plans after triple transfer swoop

Good morning, Rams fans. Here are your latest Derby County headlines on the morning of Wednesday, July 7, 2022.

Conor Hourihane says there was a touch of "fate" about his move to Derby County after revealing a chance meeting with interim boss Liam Rosenior.

The former Aston Villa midfielder secured his move to Pride Park today on a free transfer in what was a major statement of intent ahead of the new campaign. Hourihane left Villa Park in the summer having played a big part in their promotion back to the Premier League in 2019 and had attracted interest from the Championship.

But Derby want the 31-year-old to play an integral role in their rebuild under new owners Clowes Developments after they completed their takeover last Friday. And Hourihane, who has signed a two-year deal, revealed how a few weeks before the switch to Pride Park he had bumped into Rosenior at a restaurant with his family.

David McGoldrick has revealed how he turned down offers that were "probably more lucrative" to join Derby County and says the move to Pride Park is "perfect".

The striker became the club's fifth summer signing today in what was a hectic day of transfer activity as the Rams also announced the arrivals of Conor Hourihane and James Chester. McGoldrick, who has signed a one-year deal at Derby, arrives on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield United where spent four years at Bramall Lane.

McGoldrick was wanted by Championship side Middlesbrough where he could he have been reunited with former Blades boss Chris Wilder who is a big admirer of the forward. But the 34-year-old admitted the project at Derby under new owners Clowes Developments was too much to resist.
