Erik ten Hag has identified the same United problem as the past two managers

The last time Manchester United were in Australia Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was flogging his players in an attempt to improve fitness levels he believed weren't up to scratch.

Fast forward three years and United are Down Under once again. They will head to Perth today having spent six days in Melbourne and it's been another intense pre-season on the training ground.

There have been countless double sessions and even on days when there has been just one session it has tended to last close to three hours.

Bruno Fernandes shows leadership credentials off the pitch

This dispatch comes to you from Perth, where the majority of us who are covering United are staying in the same hotel as Leeds United.

Leeds were in the same boutique hotel three years ago when they faced United in Perth. This time, they are taking on Crystal Palace at the Optus Stadium on Friday evening, 24 hours prior to United's final friendly in Australia against Aston Villa.

United trained for the final time at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Wednesday morning before flying to Western Australia, where they are again training at the storied WACA Stadium. Their session at 10am on Thursday morning has already sold out.
