Ipswich wait in the wings as Leif Davis Leeds United transfer claim is made

Leeds United are likely to sell Leif Davis once they have signed a replacement for the injured Junior Firpo, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The report adds that Ipswich Town are prioritising a striker and a left-back this summer, with the Blues expected to pay a seven-figure fee for the 22-year-old.

Firpo was ruled out for up to eight weeks after picking up an injury in Leeds’ 4-0 pre-season win over Blackpool on 7 July. With Stuart Dallas also not expected to return until 2023, Leeds are currently short of options at left-back.

Davis started Leeds’ 1-0 pre-season defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday and conceded a second-half penalty, which Danny Ings converted to score the winning goal.

He was replaced by Leo Hjelde for the final 21 minutes, who nearly beat Robin Olsen when his swerving cross was clawed away by the Aston Villa goalkeeper.

Beren Cross discussed the left-back situation in Leeds Live’s Facebook live chat on Sunday, stating: “The big elephant in the room is at left-back. The club is trying to explore every opportunity they have within their own squad but most are of the opinion that they need to go and buy somebody.

He added: “Jesse stopped short of backing him [Davis] completely in the press conference. He said that he has got a test on his hands, it’s effectively a trial for him at the moment. But he wasn’t quite singing his names from the heavens.”

Leeds have reportedly been ‘weighing’ up a move for Stoke City left-back Josh Tymon. The 23-year-old played in all but two of the Potters’ Championship matches last term and has top-flight experience in England and Portugal.
