Denmark duo blast referee after Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund targeted in San Marino win

Rasmus Hojlund has revealed his concern after being the subject of rough treatment from San Marino players on Tuesday night. That approach didn't stop him from finding the scoresheet, though, with the Manchester United forward netting the first goal for Denmark as they survived a scare to win 2-1 away from home.

Hojlund opened the scoring just before half time with a ferocious shot into the roof of the net, but it looked like there could be a shock on the cards when Alessandro Golinucci levelled for the hosts on the hour mark.

Those blushes were saved ten minutes later when Yussuf Poulsen grabbed an important win. Victory for Denmark kept them second in Group H, only behind Slovenia on goal difference, the side they face in a crucial qualifier fixture next month.

Denmark struggled to make their dominance count on the night against a well-drilled opposition, who adopted a physical approach to try and unsettle their visitors.

Hojlund was one of those targeted by the San Marino players, and he was especially irritated after Roberto Di Maio was cautioned for a mistimed tackle that resulted in him kneeing the United attacker in the back.

"They targeted me today, as you can see at the end," he said after the game. "I understand Italian and I could hear them saying that they had the idea to crush me. And you can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind. A yellow card is a joke."

Speaking after the game, Danish defender Simon Kjaer revealed that his side complained to the match officials about the rough treatment, in particular their plan to target Hojlund.
