Gary Neville names dream Manchester United strike partner for Rasmus Hojlund

Gary Neville has named Wayne Rooney among five strikers he thinks would help Rasmus Hojlund thrive at Manchester United.

The Reds paid £72million to bring Hojlund to the club from Atalanta this summer. The 20-year-old Denmark international has impressed with his performances without yet being able to open his Premier League account.

United initially held an interest in Harry Kane before the England captain signed for Bayern Munich in a £100million deal. The Reds moved on from Kane once it became clear Tottenham would be unwilling to sell to a Premier League club.

Ex-captain Neville is convinced Hojlund will eventually do the business for United. Neville listed four United greats when asked to name the perfect partner for Hojlund before dreaming of the impact Kane could have had at Old Trafford.

Talking on the Webby and O'Neill YouTube channel, Neville said: "I love Hojlund. Hojlund is a player that fits the United profile of player.

"He's young, he's got plenty of growth, he's strong. I'd hate to play against him.

"I'd have loved to see him up from with [Eric] Cantona, I'd love to see him up front with [Dwight] Yorke, I'd love to see him up front with [Andy] Cole, I'd love to see him up front with Wazza [Rooney].

"If he was up front with Wazza they'd beat everyone up. He's having to be the man, not the assistant to the man, which he should be really and if he was up front with Harry Kane we'd be looking at someone rampaging through people this season."
