David Moyes breaks silence on Man City transfer interest in Lucas Paqueta

David Moyes has insisted Manchester City's first offer for Lucas Paqueta was 'nowhere near' West Ham United's valuation.

City are still looking to reinforce their midfield options this summer after losing Ilkay Gundogan and the Hammers' star is the latest to be considered for the role after the likes of Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Gabri Veiga were all looked at.

Bernardo Silva is expected to stay at City but Pep Guardiola still wants another midfielder whilst they weigh up how to replace Riyad Mahrez. Hammers star Paqueta is among their targets.

West Ham paid a club-record £51million fee for the Brazilian last summer, bringing him from Lyon to the Premier League. Moyes revealed City's offer has been rebuffed and is well short of what it would take to lure him away from London.

"We've had an offer from Manchester City, but at the moment it's not anywhere near meeting our valuation," he said. "We sold Declan [Rice] and I actually think Declan was quite cheap, to be honest."

Given Moises Caicedo's £110m price tag, with Liverpool and Chelsea fighting for his services, West Ham are likely to demand a similar fee for Paqueta. With City having walked away from a deal for Rice earlier this summer due to West Ham's valuation, it seems unlikely at this stage that City would be willing to offer the Hammers the fee they're demanding.
