David Kasumu injury worry gives Huddersfield Town midfield headscratcher

Injuries always seemed likely to be a risk for David Kasumu. The summer arrival from Milton Keynes would surely have been playing Championship football before now had it not been for the amount of time he had spent on the sidelines over the past couple of seasons – and he has already given Huddersfield Town cause for concern just one game in at his new club.

The midfielder lasted just 17 minutes after coming on for his debut against Burnley before he had to signal to the bench to stop a planned double substitution so he could come back off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Hamstring issues come in all different levels of severity, and no information is yet available on how long Kasumu can expect to miss; for all we know, he could be back in the squad for Friday or he could be set for a lengthier spell out of the side.

We also don’t know how recurrent these incidents are going to be for Kasumu; his track record is not terribly encouraging, but Town’s fitness and conditioning programme and their training facilities are likely to be an improvement over what was available to him in Leagues One and Two.

What is clear is that Town need a player of his skillset in central midfield: all action, all energy, with both the willingness to put in the hard yards in defence and the ability to help drive the play forward in attack. In other words, Kasumu’s signing was likely prioritised knowing a replacement for Lewis O’Brien was likely to be required.

As such, one would imagine that putting him into the starting lineup would be the first thing to try to get Town closer to the kind of performances they produced last season than what they showed against Burnley. But if Kasumu has now been rendered unavailable, though, Danny
