Danilo has 'heavy' Rangers transfer burden to carry as Alfredo Morelos comparison reignites burning question

Cyriel Dessers and Danilo have been told they have much to prove in Rangers colours - but there early impact struggles are understandable.

The former opened his Ibrox account in the weekend's win over Livingston but was left head in hands in the Champions League against Servette, as he missed a tap-in opportunity with the game at 0-0. Rangers would go on to draw 1-1 on the night thanks to a James Tavernier goal that cancelled out strike and it saved Danilo's blushes, while Dessers came off the bench and missed a header from inside the six yard box and struck the post.

BBC pundit Steven Thompson reckons Danilo - who has signed in a deal worth £6m - was one who struggled in the match on an otherwise positive night for his former club as they reached the UCL play-off round to face PSV. The pressure of a big-money move could be a heavy weight according to the pundit but that said, he still wants to see more from both the Brazilian and Dessers. Thompson was asked about what the two new striker offer this Rangers side and he said on Sportsound: "It is too early to make any judgements really just now. You are better placed to make a judgement on them in a couple months time.

"But I felt as though Danilo struggled in the game, to have an impact. It didn't really suit him and he misses the chance. Probably his confidence and head probably goes down a wee bit. Dessers offers something different, more physical but not quite as mobile.
