Barry Ferguson has Rangers transfer expectancy after Michael Beale reveal as he spots two clues in signing puzzle

Barry Ferguson reckons a centre-back might be where Michael Beale looks to do some more Rangers transfer business.

The former captain has been looking ahead to the side's Champions League play-off dates with destiny against PSV, where matches over this week and next against Eredivisie opposition will settle their group stage fate, like last year when they emerged victorious. But ahead of the first leg at Ibrox in his pre-match presser, Beale insisted "If we can get one in that I think can make the starting team stronger then that would be great."

Ferguson has pondered where Rangers might move next in the market and with a loaded forward line, he can only see central defence as an option. The ex-midfielder explained: "I was watching Michael Beale's presser and I think he is looking to bring in one other player. I do expect one more signing and where that will be, I am unsure.

"I think up top you are top heavy and in central midfield you are pretty strong with bringing Cifuentes in. Maybe a defender, who knows, but I do think there will be another player coming through the door before the window closes."

Ianis Hagi has also raised Ferguson's eyebrows. Beale also revealed in his press conference that the Romanian playmaker and his agent had been looking into possible transfer options.

Ferguson added: "He is frustrated, any footballer wants to start games of football. I like Hagi, I do, I always have and he has had a tough 18 months, had a serious injury.

"But seemingly he has had a real good pre-season and hasn't missed any sessions. He is finding difficult to get into Michael Beale's starting XI so that tells me he may be one that is going to get moved on. He is one of they guys in the final third that can open up a team."
